Overview

Soft Tech Consulting is seeking a highly motivated, self-directed individual to fill the role of an Applications Lead. The selected individual will join a collaborative team environment where they will provide expertise and guidance to the project leadership and team. The Applications Lead. plays a key role in client relations.  Key to the success of this position is the successful delivery of projects and effective communication to all levels of staff for reporting project status. Location: Durham, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex system requirements.
  • Design and develop software tools and subsystems to support software reuse and domain analyses and manage their implementation.
  • Manage software development and support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, other accepted design techniques and Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools.
  • Estimate software development cost and schedule.
  • Oversee/manage the following:
    • Review existing programs and assist in making refinements, redusing operating time, and improving current techniques.
    • Responsibile for all operations, maintenance and enhancements for all current Cold Fusion applications.
    • Responsible for the backend support of existing and new applications from other contracts.
    • Perform corrective maintenance actions (including security) that encompass modifications to fix relevant application problems caused by design, logic, coding, development, and infrastructure errors.
    • Perform all project phases and activities required to build, test, and deploy all corrective maintenance changes as necessary to fix the application problems:
    • Perform corrective maintenance actions to restore a failed system to operational status, and replace or repair the software component that is responsible for the failure in the system.
    • Perform corrective maintenance to ensure continuing operations for software version/platform/infrastructure changes (e.g., operating system upgrades, or Oracle upgrades) when the impacted business application/system would otherwise not work as a direct result of that version/platform/infrastructure change.
    • Perform preventative changes to include restructuring, refactoring, and optimizing code; updating documentation; or implementing changes to reduce long term, unpredictable effects on relevant software. 
    • Perform preventative maintenance services that increase the reliability and maintainability of the client's applications across their lifecycle and reduce total cost of ownership for the Government.
    • Perform small incremental changes that add or modify features to existing applications in support of better business operations for users.
    • Conduct system integration and stability tests as applicable as part of their quality control plan for any application changes.
      • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of the new or modified application code, database changes, or additions, after successful completion of Contractor testing.
      • Prepare or update a UAT plan with test scenarios and scripts for users to follow during the initial structured portion of the UAT.
      • Assist the Government during the preparation and execution of the acceptance test by establishing test data and maintaining the test environment.
      • Correct any errors identified by the UAT team.
      • Document the results of the testing in the Test Report. 

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology Management or Engineering or related OR Four years of related experience may be substituted for the education degree requirement 

  • Minimum of 5 years supervising software configuration management.

  • Experience analyzing complex system requirements.

  • Experience designing and developing software tools and subsystems to support software reuse and domain analyses and manage their implementation.
  • Experience managing software development and support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, other accepted design techniques and Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools.
  • Experience in estimating software development costs and schedule.
  • Experience in reviewing existing programs and assist in making refinements, reducing operating time, and improving current techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Able to work independently.
