ONSITE - Franconia/Springfield, VA Area

 

Soft Tech Consulting is seeking a highly motivated, self-directed individual, to fill the role of Sr. SolarWinds Engineer (SME). The Sr. SolarWinds Engineer (SME) position focuses on administration, support, and operation of the SolarWinds platform including Network Performance Monitor, Network Configuration Manager, Server & Application Monitor, Traffic Analyzer and IP Address Manager, User Device Tracker, Voice and Quality Manager,  Storage Resource Manager, Virtual Manager, and Architecture of VM Environments, to complete implementation, support/maintain, and perform upgrades of the SolarWinds virtual infrastructure.  The selected individual will join a collaborative team environment and contribute to the project goals.

 

Salary is dependent upon the candidates skills, experience, certifications and education as it pertains to this specific position  

Salary Range: 120-148k/yr.
High end of the salary range is considered for those who exceed Required Qualifications

Responsibilities

Work directly with the System Admin and Network Team to support the following tasks:

 

Installation:

  • Support SolarWinds Install and Testing to include Alpha Testing, Beta Testing.OCONUS Post Testing.
  • Provide SolarWinds expertise at levels of installation and testing to include determining devices to monitor including IP addresses, ports and protocols.
  • Support Installation and testing at all Post sites for SMSe.
    • Troubleshoot any installation problems.
    • Configure as needed.
    • Document and provide Lessons Learned if applicable.

Operations Support:

 

Track and monitor all SolarWinds installations using web console including the following panels: Windows, Virtualization, Network, Agents, SNMP, ICMP, and polling.

  • Address and resolve submitted support tickets for SolarWinds.
  • Provide the STOC initial troubleshooting steps to determine type of ticket needed.
  • Handle day to day checks and monitoring.
    • Network Performance Monitoring.
      • Detect, report, diagnose, and resolve performance issues.
      • Support Virtual Infrastructure Monitoring to include the following virtual devices:
        • ESXi and ESX Server version 4.1 or later.
        • VMware vSphere version 4.1 or later.
        • Microsoft Hyper-V Server versions 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 – N/A for SMSe.
          • Server and Application Monitoring.
            • Monitor servers and applications.
          • Login Credential Monitoring for Windows and VMware Servers.
            • Review logs.
  • Provide weekly and monthly report metrics and dashboards.
  • Highlight any emergency concerns as soon as they are identified, provide Risk information and mitigation if identified.

Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years’ experience working in a large complex environment (> 4K infrastructure components and applications).
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field required, equivalent years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Must have an understanding in the administration, support, configuration, and operation of the following:
    • Routers, switches.
    • Wireless (Cisco WLC).
    • Firewalls (VPN, remote access).
    • Cisco Call manager (CUCM).
    • Cisco Netflow configuration.
    • Storage (Brocade, Netapp, Commvault ,DXI).
    • Server (Windows, Nix).
    • Applications (AD, DHCP, DNS, SaaS, PaaS).
    • Databases (SQL, DB2, Oracle).
    • Web (IIS, Websphere).
    • Email (Exchange, OWA).
    • VMware, Hyper-V.
    • Pingdom Web monitoring (CSS, HTML, synthetic transactions).
  • Competent understanding of mixed-technology solutions.
  • Act as part of a structured operations team in support of resolving technical issues.
  • Availability to troubleshoot and resolve issues during off-work hours and/or extended hours when outages or projects required.
  • Mentoring Skills: Proven ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Organizational Skills (ability to organize large amounts of data in a logical manner).
  • Excellent Troubleshooting Skills.
  • Excellent documentation skills are required.
  • Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical executives and managers.
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced Information Technology environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Able to work independently with little to no oversight/guidance.
