ONSITE - Franconia/Springfield, VA Area

Salary is dependent upon the candidates skills, experience, certifications and education as it pertains to this specific position  

Salary Range: 120-148k/yr.
High end of the salary range is considered for those who exceed Required Qualifications

Soft Tech Consulting is seeking a highly skilled SolarWinds Engineer to support the installation, configuration, and operational monitoring of SolarWinds across a large-scale enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with system administrators and network teams to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability of network and server infrastructure

Work directly with the System Admin and Network Team to support the following tasks:

Installation & Configuration

• Support SolarWinds installation and testing phases (Alpha, Beta, OCONUS Post Testing).
• Determine devices to monitor including IP addresses, ports, and protocols.
• Troubleshoot installation issues and perform necessary configurations.
• Document processes and provide lessons learned.

Operations & Monitoring

• Monitor SolarWinds web console panels: Windows, Virtualization, Network, Agents, SNMP, ICMP, and polling.
• Address and resolve support tickets; provide initial troubleshooting steps.
• Perform daily checks and network performance monitoring.
• Detect, report, diagnose, and resolve performance issues.

Virtual Infrastructure Support

• Monitor virtual devices including:
• VMware ESXi/ESX (v4.1+)
• VMware vSphere (v4.1+)
• Microsoft Hyper-V (2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 – N/A for SMSe)

Server & Application Monitoring

• Monitor servers, applications, and login credentials (Windows & VMware).
• Review logs and generate weekly/monthly metrics and dashboards.
• Escalate emergency concerns and provide risk mitigation strategies.

• Experience: Minimum 7 years in a large complex IT environment (>4K infrastructure components).
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Solid SolarWinds experience
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Routers, switches, Cisco WLC, VPNs, firewalls
  • Cisco CUCM, NetFlow configuration
  • Storage systems: Brocade, NetApp, Commvault, DXI
  • Servers: Windows, Unix/Linux
  • Applications: AD, DHCP, DNS, SaaS, PaaS
  • Databases: SQL, DB2, Oracle
  • Web: IIS, WebSphere
  • Email: Exchange, OWA
  • Virtualization: VMware, Hyper-V
  • Web Monitoring: Pingdom, CSS, HTML, synthetic transactions

• Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
  • Ability to mentor and lead technical teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Highly organized and able to manage large datasets
  • Willingness to work off-hours for outages or critical projects
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
