Soft Tech Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Engineer to support one of our government clients. The Senior OT Cybersecurity Engineer will lead efforts to secure and optimize client's Facility Operational Technology Systems (FOTS), including Building Automation Systems (BAS), Fire Alarm Systems, Hospital Automated Courier Systems (HACS), and Animal Facility Environmental Monitoring (AFEM). This role involves strategic planning, risk management, and technical oversight of cybersecurity operations across complex OT/ICS environments, ensuring compliance with NIST SP 800-82r3 and SP 800-53 Rev 5.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of cybersecurity strategies for OT systems.
  • Oversee risk and vulnerability assessments, process hazard analyses (PHA), and mitigation planning.
  • Define baseline system security requirements and ensure alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for OT cybersecurity standards, policies, and risk management plans.
  • Architect secure OT network infrastructures and assign security levels to network zones.
  • Monitor and secure control system communication protocols and media.
  • Oversee configuration management and recommend improvements.
  • Design and implement cybersecurity tools and inspection policies for OT systems.
  • Lead incident response and system recovery efforts in control system environments.
  • Coordinate system upgrades and change management processes.
  • Interface with the client and vendor teams to ensure secure integration and operations.
  • Review engineering plans and documentation for cybersecurity compliance.
  • Develop procurement specifications with embedded cybersecurity requirements.
  • Maintain OT asset inventories and support continuity planning and business impact analysis.
  • Train cybersecurity defense technicians on OT system processes and procedures.
  • Communicate implications of new technologies to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Lead interdepartmental planning and business case development for cybersecurity initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in cybersecurity, industrial controls, or network engineering.
  • Proven leadership experience in regulated environments such as healthcare, utilities, or federal agencies.
  • Preferred Certifications: CISSP, CISA, ITIL, CCNA, PMP, MCSE, or equivalent certifications.
  • Deep knowledge of NIST SP 800-82r3, SP 800-53 Rev 5, RMF, and CIA principles.
  • Expertise in OT protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.) and control systems (e.g., Siemens, Johnson Controls).
  • Proficiency in anomaly detection, firewall rule management, and access control.
  • Experience with system monitoring, backup/recovery, antivirus, and virtualization platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Skilled in technical documentation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
